Well, my job has been having me travel about 100% since Christmas. It's really tough only having weekends at home. Getting burned out. Will need to find a new job soon, I just can't keep this up, especially since I'm now engaged to marry the love of my life. :)

An updated map of where I've been:

visited 37 states (74%)
Create your own visited map of The United States or jurisdische veraling duits?

I feel I can really relate to Johnny Cash's song "I've been everywhere" now. And it's not really a good thing. LOL

For the breif personal time I've had, I've been working on 1 fun project for myself and it's just about finished: I've reached that point in my life, where every man reaches at one point or another, where you buy a new Plasma HDTV and come to the realization that you're entertainment center just wont fit the bill any longer and the only thing to do is to CONVERT IT IN TO A BAR. So thats just what I did :)
I'm proud to present the "J-BAR"(tm)

The bar closed:

The bar open:

bar closeup:

I have LED puck lights mounted between the upper shelf and the stemware hangers illuminating the stemware and LED pucklights under the bottle shelf illuminating the bottles. Looks sweet when it's darker in the room. All that's left is to mount a mirror on the back and maby the sides. :)
Cheers.
-J

Update.

Well, things have been going well overall. Just been stressing out over the fate of my company lately. The investor has not been doing well by us. I hope we'll survive.
Oh well, had a great time at oklacon again this year. Got many hours of raw tape to sort and edit and turn into a con video. But while I had some free time, for fun I whipped up "The Jugular Jaguar Show". Just a fun stunt Draconis thought of in his Juglar Jaguar suit.
For your enjoyment.

<lj-embed id="1" />

What I've been up to lately.

Typical excuse, "I've been too busy."
But I really have been.
For years during my 2 hour commutes back up in Mass, I dreamed of being one of those guys who's job meant your commute was on an airplane rather than in a car. And I've finally worked myself in to that kind of position.
You know the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for beacuse you just might get it."? Hahaha well, that's how it's been.
The past 3 months have been crazy. Minus the past two weeks where I've finally had some home time; I've been flying out every sunday evening to Oklahoma City and flying back to Phoenix on Friday evenings, only having little over 1 day per weekend at home with my girlfriend. In the middle of that has been a weekend trip to Dallas, another to Houston, another to Portland OR, and a weekend in D.C. And just last week I got a call from my friend at MS who needed me to fly back to dallas to fill in for him the next day and give a presentation to 50 people.
It only sucks beacuse I didnt finally get this lifestyle I wanted until I happened to find and now live with the love of my life. Now I don't want to travel like this. Hahaha, that's life I suppose. But I look at this hectic travel as a temporary means to an end. Once we hire more consultants to work under me, I wont have to travel so much. Hopefully in 6 months or so, I'm managing a team of consultants and travelling rarely so in a few years we can sell the company for millions and I get my 10%. So I put up with it while I have to.
Of course my fittness has suffered as a result. All this constant travel means no time to work out and no way to really control my diet.
All I can say is, thank God for "Furry". "Furry" is so many different things to different people but really, at it's core, it's a network of friends. And my friends in furry come through time and again. These past couple of months in Oklahoma City would have been boring and lonely if it wasn't for my friend JugularJaguar there in OKC extending a paw and hanging out with me. We had a lot of fun and I just want to say Thanks Man. And the same rang true when I first moved to Dallas. I knew nobody. So I found the Dallas Furs group here on LJ, made contact and they welcomed me warmly. I immediately had a new group of friends and it really made the year and a half in Dallas a great time I'll never forget. To all my Dallas friends, Thanks again! I'm really psyched about the new Furry Fiesta Con in Dallas. It's shaping up to be a great con.
I'm really looking forward to seeing you all again at Oklacon this year. Speaking of Oklacon, I've just got my paws on the Adobe CS3 Production Premium suite to help me do some more creative things with the Con video this year. I've been tinkering a bit with After Effects and came up with a couple of test clips:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne-cZM7_-ho
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28VOT9mKANI
 So take care everyone!
-J

Well, even though I don't like that the last post was the devil card, LOL, the description says its symbolic of buisness success. I really hope so hahah because my buisness partner and I just secured an investor to start our own IT services company! Finally, I get to work for my own company. Going to be very very busy very soon! :)
-J

But I'm not at all evil. Really!

Saw the mame on Beowulf's LJ so I decided to try it.
Eek, lol!

You are The Devil

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession

The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan" at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

On the wing again...

Just sat down at a bar near my hotel here in san Francisco, back again for a shadowing engadgement. This makes my third trip here in two months. Its not bad, I just get what all the hype is about regarding San Fran. Perhaps its because my trips have all been buisness.
Just flew out today, and I'm already missing my gilfriend. :) She was sick all weekend, poor girl, so I was doing my best to help keep her as comfortable as I could. Sure enough, as I boarded the plane, a sick feeling started to come over me. Oh boy, I have a feeling its going to be a long week.
I return to phx on fri night. Then I have to fly out again sat morning (by choice) to spend a day in DFW persuing a buisness opportunity. Will be meeting my prospective associates in plano then flying back to phx sat night. The next week I'm at home in phx all week, then its back to DFW for the next weekend with the girlfriend (who will already be there having left earlier in the week to open the new ra su shi at legacy in plano. So we'l be enjoying our 1 year anaversary, exactly where we first met. Now that, I'm truly looking forward to.
Food just arrived, signing off.

Another great time at FWA

(Crossposted to Furryweekend)

I dont remember why, back in 2005, when Fox and I decided to get active in the fandom again after many years of idling, that we chose FWA to be our first con to attend since 1997. But I'm glad we chose it. It's always a good time with good people.
So hello to all the new furs I met this year. It was great to meet you all!
And thanks and hello to everyone who'se recently added me to thier LJ friends list I'm friending you all as well.

I wasn't originally going to bring a video camera to the con this year, but as it was Scape's convention debut I just had to bring my pro camera. So I've got 3 videos posted to youtube so far:

The Fursuit Parade:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKez_UMZ-es

Scape's variety show performance on the bagpipes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB1KHxJzILI

and Neo Dancing the Candy Man:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daHSI-Ofp9E

I've also got Foxwolf9tails and Aloha's act and Lucky and that fur in the green lantern suit (sorry I forget your name! Doh!)'s act. Unfortunately due to time constraints I wasn't able to get all the acts, as I had to leave for the airport. Too bad I got stuck in the Tornado ground stops and was stuck wasting away in the airport till approx 8:15pm. :( I could have stayed longer at the con!
Thanks for all the fun Dallas!

It's been an amazing couple of years.
I wanted to thank all the new friends I made during my year and a half in Dallas. Not knowing anyone down there when microsquish relocated me there after they bought my company, I immediately reached out to the furry community to meet some people, and I gotta say, the dallas furs are a hell of a great bunch. I left MS 5 months ago for another company, who's just now been bought out by another software company famous for thier virtual machine technology and I've just now moved to Phoenix, AZ to finally live with my girlfriend of 9 months. The distance was hard and the flying once or twice a month back and fourth from dallas to phoenix really got expensive, but she was worth it. Finally after the 17 hour drive in a uhaul towing my car behind, now we're really happy.
So best fortunes to my friends in DFW, all the best for 2008 and I look forward to seeing you at cons!
-Cactus J (hehehe)

New Beginnings

Finally gave my letter of resignation to M|cr050ft this morning! I recieved a great offer for a new position with another company, finnaly leaving technical support again for pre-sales and archetecture consulting which is on track for where I want to be growing the career. And a nice fat raise. :) This job is still here in Dallas so I wont be moving in the near term. Lots of traveling but telecommuting when not traveling, which means I dont have to rush through lunch-break workouts any more! Hazzzah!
And what a great labor day weekend. Spent the long weekend with my Girlfriend at her place in Phoenix. I was supposed to fly friday evening, but beacuse I knew I would be giving my notice today, I said 'Fuck-it!' and just called out disinterested (sick LOL) from work on friday and hopped on stand-by for a flight thursday night and managed to get a seat. It was about 110 degrees most days in Phoenix but it was great. Spent hours drinking and relaxing in/by her pool, went out to dinner with some friends for some kick ass sushi.
Saturday morning (early!) boating with her brother. Tried wake boarding for the first time... just couldnt manage to get up on the board. Spent most of the time dragging my face in the water. LOL I almost had it too. I'll get the hang of it next time.
Sunday my baby suprised me by booking us the night at a fantastic resort only 30 mins away which was exactly as it's name described "Carefree". :)
After my last day this friday, I'm flying back out to phoenix to spend my week off before the new job with her. That week will end with a trip to L.A. on the last weekend to attend a wedding we already planned to.

Then I'm off to Portsmouth, NH to the headquarters of the company I'll be working for for training and orientation, etc which is great beacuse it gives me time to drive to Mass to see the family!
What a great month September is shaping up to be! :)

Yeah, I'm posting while drunk. You might find yourself asking, 'Why aren't I drunk?' Or you might not. You may have already noticed that you did, just now, ask yourself why your not drunk. If so, you've fallen prey to Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP). NLP is all around you. Feel it, fear it. You may or may not have a drink now.
}^)
-J

Havn't updated in a while...

Life... has been good. All in all.

* The relationship with my Girlfriend keeps getting better and better. Although it just means coping with the distance is getting harder and harder. ;) At least this month I'm seeing her twice, which has been rare. Before last time, it was 6 weeks between dates. But I'm flying out to Phoenix tonight to spend the weekend with her. :) Then it'll likley be another 2 weeks apart before we meet up again together up in Mass for my brother's wedding.
Then in september we're going to one of her friends weddings in L.A., Beverly Hills. Can't wait for that trip! :)

* While I really dont like my job, propspects have been opening up. I'm intereviewing for a field engineer role in my company here next week which will make me happy. I'm also interviewing for a pre-sales and consulting role for another company next week as well which will be essentially all work from home except for when I'm on site at a customer engagement. The phone interviews have been great and I'm having the in-person next week. This will make me even happier. Of course, the one wrench in this now is that my love is out in Phonenix. So I need to take the eventuality of relocation to Phoenix into consideration as well. I think there's a chance for this with either of these 2 jobs but not certian. If not, well, maby by november timeframe I'll start looking for jobs specifically in Phoenix. I bought her a Pink Zune as a suprise, I hope she likes it. ;)

* I'm dissapointed my first potential client for custom video services turned out to be cheap and just kept trying to get me to lower my price even after a HUGE waaay below market rate discount. Oh well, no pay, no play. I wont be walked on. What dissappoints me more than turning down this gig and not getting the money, is turning down this gig and not having the first real opportunity to build my professional portfolio. Without that, it will be hard to find another client. Oh well, I bought the equipment primarily for my own enjoyment anway, but it will be nice to have the equipment at least pay for itself eventually.
If anyone here in DFW needs a video, or a commercial made LOL I'm available!

* My personal fitness progress has been continusouly improving. The workouts have been great, my motivation and enjoyment in working out is high, I'm busting through some frustrating long standing plateau's simply by changing the way I was working out a particular muscle group and am finally seeing new progress as a result. Grrowf!

* Waiting on 3 new very nice executive suits from Joseph A. Bank I just purchased ($$$$ OUCH! LOL) to come back from the alterations. Hows that song go, "Everyfurrs crazy bout a sharp dressed Wolf"? LOL!

* Looking forward to Oklacon! I was approached to shoot video for the con and am looking forward to it, already coming up with some cool ideas. :) I havnt been camping in quite a while either. Will be great to get back in the outdoors.

Well, I suppose that's it in a mid-sized nutshell. ;)
-J

Back in the gym (finally!)

Had my first real workout in about 2 months on Saturday. Due to illness and injury kept me out of the gym the first month, and the second was just tooo insanely buisy. I've said enough! No more distractions! Must return to feeding my addition of throwing the weights around.
Saturday was a push day = Chest, Front and Medial Deltoids and Tricepts.
 Rested Sunday
Monday was a pull day = Back, Rear Delts, Traps, Bicepts and Forearms.
 Today was Leg Day.
Man I'm feeling great! I get so generally down when I'm out for so long, but after a couple workouts, I'm rearing to tackle the world again!
Since I've been out so long, and after injury... I'm starting out doing high volume (lots of reps) for light weight untill I'm back in the zone. So legs today were only Squats 20 reps at 540lbs then 20 at 450lbs. Presses: 20 reps at 630lbs x 2 (1 set straight, 2nd set toes pointed out). And calf raises were 20 reps at 810lbs x 2. Threw in some prone leg curls as well, 20 reps at 150lbs and another for 20 reps at 100lbs.
Not as crazy as I like to go, but dont want to reinjure myself either. 8^)

Just bought plane tickets to see my girl in Phoenix for the middle of next month. It's hard only being able to be together once a month or so, but this time around it was a month and a half. I always told myself I wouldnt do a long distance relationship like this, but she's so worth it. :)
-J
